Observing at ProHealth Care

A student observer in the Emergency Dept. at Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital.

Thank you for your interest in observing at one of our ProHealth Care facilities.  Observing (job shadowing) the role of a health care professional can provide you will helpful information regarding a possible career choice.  While ProHealth Care accommodates hundreds of observers each year,  we do have specfic requirements that must be met before you can participate in an observation experience.

What are the observer requirements?

This page contains the necessary documents to request a non-surgical observation.

  1. Please complete the ProHealth Care Request for Observation Form. This form will ask for specific information regarding the following:
    • Immunizations:  You must provide immunization dates in order to have your request considered.  Please obtain the relevant immunizations/records prior to submitting your request.
    • Tuberculosis (TB) Skin Test:All observers must have had a negative TB skin test within the past 12 months to have your request considered. Please scroll down for additional information on TB skin tests.
  2. Please sign and abide by the contents of the  Observer Confidentiality Agreement.
  3. Please read and adhere to the Observer Dress Code and Life Safety Code Information.

Where can I get a TB skin test?

TB skin test, they are available at the following locations:

  • Your doctor's office
  • The Waukesha County Health Department Outreach Clinics 262-896-8430

What is involved with TB skin test?

The TB skin test involves two visits to the Clinic or Office.  On the first visit, you receive a small injection into your skin that causes a "bleb".  It feels like a small lump of fluid under your skin.  You must return within 48 to 72 hours to have your arm checked by the staff.  Confirm this time with the staff.

On the second visit, the staff will look at your TB skin test.  It will either flatten out and look "normal" (negative result) or get larger, reddened and firm (positive result) during the 48 to 72 hour time frame.   If a test is "positive", it means you have been exposed to TB, and need further tests to see if you are developing it.  In this case, your  observation request will be denied.

Please note the following important points

  1. Failure to meet the requirements outlined on the Request for Observation form will result in denial of your observation request.   Please follow the instructions carefully.
